Who we are

A one-room spice house in Greene County, run by the person who answers the phone.

Rooz Spice Trading Co. started in 2014 in a converted garage behind the house on Barrington Court. Jenny Weiss had spent nine years buying dry goods for a regional restaurant group and kept running into the same problem: pepper that had been sitting in a warehouse for three years, "cinnamon" that was actually cassia dust, and paprika with no harvest date anywhere on the drum.

So we started buying small — one grower, one lot, one harvest at a time — and milling only what we could sell inside ninety days. Twelve years later the mill is bigger and the rule is the same. Every jar leaves here with a lot number, an origin and a mill date printed on the side.

No private-label repacking. No "natural flavour" fillers. No anti-caking agents in anything that doesn't need one.

Why cooks switch

Four things we refuse to compromise on

These aren't marketing lines. They are the operating rules pinned to the wall above the scale.

Dated at the mill

Every label carries a harvest year, a mill date and a lot code. If you can't tell how old a spice is, it's already too old.

Whole until ordered

We store whole seed, bark and pod in sealed drums and grind against demand. Ground cumin loses most of its aroma within four months — ours ships within days of milling.

Lab-tested lots

Incoming lots are screened by an independent US laboratory for pathogens, heavy metals and adulterants. Certificates are available on request for any lot code.

Paid fairly, twice

We pay a deposit at contract and settle in full inside 14 days of shipment — not 90. Small farms cannot bank on promises.

In their words

Kitchens that buy from us every month

★★★★★

“We switched our pepper mill stock over in 2019 and never went back. The difference on a plain steak is not subtle.”

— Dale H., chef-owner, Jonesboro AR
★★★★★

“Jenny reformulated our cinnamon roll blend three times until it matched what we had in our heads. Who does that for a 12 lb order?”

— Marisol P., bakery manager, Memphis TN
★★★★★

“Ordered on a Monday, jars on my porch Wednesday, and the cardamom actually smelled like something. Refill pouches are a nice touch.”

— Andrea K., home cook, Columbus OH

Not at present. We ship to all 50 US states plus DC and Puerto Rico. International customers can email us and we'll point you to a regional stockist where one exists.

No minimum for retail. Wholesale accounts start at a $150 opening order and 5 lb per SKU.
